Shweta Mital is a health economist and an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba. She earned her Master of Science in economics from the University of Warwick, U.K. and PhD from Memorial University, Canada. Thereafter, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Memorial University before joining the University of Manitoba in 2023. Her research spans two areas of health economics – namely, evaluation of health policies, particularly substance use policies, and health technology assessment. She has authored numerous articles in prestigious journals, including JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Network Open, JAMA Health Forum, PharmacoEconomics, Diabetes Care, and American Journal of Gastroenterology. Her research is funded by national and international organizations and covered in major media outlets. Her research has been recognized through several honors and recognitions including the Tufts–CEVR Cost-Effectiveness Paper of the Year Award (runner-up). She has also served as a Visiting Health Economics Scholar at the University of Oxford. Dr. Mital’s work is distinguished by its direct and demonstrable impact on health policy and clinical decision-making. Her research has been used as evidence in international clinical practice guidelines, parliamentary hearings, government reports, and position statements by leading professional bodies.
