David Powell is a senior economist at the RAND Corporation. He has extensive research on understanding the current state of the opioid crisis and policies which can reduce overdoses. His work on the opioid crisis has been published in the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, the Journal of Health Economics, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, and Health Affairs. In addition to research on the opioid epidemic, Powell has published research on the effectiveness of medical care in workers’ compensation and the effects of income taxes on labor supply. He also has forthcoming work on the estimation of quantile treatment effects as well as research on panel data inference. Powell received his doctoral degree in economics from MIT.
