Bio
Harold Pollack is a Helen Ross Professor at the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice at the University of Chicago. He is faculty co-director of the University of Chicago Health Lab. He regularly advises local, state, and federal policymakers on public health policy, including efforts to improve the design and implementation of Medicaid programs to provide better structural supports to address public health challenges. The past president of the Health Politics and Policy section, American Political Science Association, he is an elected member of the National Academy of Social Insurance, and an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare. He is currently co-Principal Investigator, with John Schneider, on the NIDA-funded Methodology and Advanced Analytics Resource Center (MAARC) to assist the JCOIN network of randomized trials to assist individuals with opioid use disorders under criminal justice system supervision. He is Principal Investigator on the Reducing Opioid Mortality in Illinois (ROMI) multi-site intervention trial, which seeks to improve services for criminal-justice involved men and women with opioid use disorders. He is also collaborating with Chicago police, fire, and 911 personnel to improve services for individuals and family caregivers who face elevated risks of violent encounters with Chicago first responders. His policy journalism on public health policy frequently appears in the Washington Post, Democracy, New York Times, and other publications.
