Bio
Dr. Hawre Jalal is the director of the DASH Lab and holds a Canada Research Chair in Health Economics. He is a physician by practice and earned his master's and PhD in health economic evaluations and decision sciences from the University of Minnesota. After his doctorate, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University. He was a faculty at the University of Pittsburgh before joining the University of Ottawa in January 2022 as an associate professor at the School of Epidemiology and Public Health.
Dr. Jalal has worked on analyzing patterns of drug overdoses and building mechanistic models to understand the dynamics of drug use, dependence, and mortality to inform health policy decisions. His work has been published in leading journals, such as Science, Nature Medicine, Addiction, and the International Journal on Drug Policy. His work has been funded by the CDC, NIDA, and CIHR. In addition, he has extensive methodological expertise in big data analytics, machine learning, and simulation modeling.
