Paul Fishman is a professor in the Department of Health Systems and Population at the University of Washington School of Public Health. Fishman is an economist whose research focuses on applying econometric methods to estimate direct and indirect health care costs and developing predictive models for use in adjusting health plan and provider payments. He has published 160 papers in peer reviewed journals and received funding from multiple US Public Health Service agencies (CDC, NCI, AHRQ, NIDA, NIAAA) and private foundations (RWJW, Commonwealth, Pew Charitable Trusts). He teaches core classes in health policy and health economics within the school’s MPH and PhD programs. Prior to becoming a faculty at the University of Washington, Fishman was an investigator at the Group Health (now Kaiser Permanente Washington) Research Institute where he supported health plan and clinical leadership in improving system efficiency and patient outcomes and experiences. Fishman’s current research focuses on the cost and outcomes of alternative treatment models for opioid use disorder in collaboration with Seattle-King County Public Health and Washington State Medicaid.
