Bruce Schackman serves as the director of CHERISH and the CHERISH Administrative Core, providing strategic oversight on the center’s research priorities. Schackman is the Saul P. Steinberg Distinguished Professor of Healthcare Policy and Research and Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine. He conducts economic evaluations of the comparative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health interventions conducted alongside clinical trials and cohort studies, including simulation modeling studies, particularly relating care for substance use and infectious diseases. He has been PI for several R-level NIDA-supported studies, including studies of strategies to address the opioid crisis and to improve the health of people who use drugs with or at risk for HCV and HIV and a health economics investigator for the HEALing Communities Study. He is currently a PI of the Modeling & Economic Resource Center of the NIDA-supported HEAL Data2Action program and a Core Director for the Columbia-Cornell Center for AIDS Research.
